LEGO VIP Gold Coin release date revealed, plus old coins to be restocked!

For those waiting out on the fifth and final collectable LEGO VIP coin – the golden coin coin (which is based on the chromed gold coins most commonly found in Pirates sets) – we now have a release date – 20th May 2021

The golden coin was originally meant to be released on the 1st of May, like every other VIP coin which released on the 1st of each month, but was unceremoniously delayed – mostly due to issues surrounding the VIP Rewards Centre caused by the Ulysses Probe.

Update: The Coin Coin will be released at the following times

Australia/New Zealand 9:00am AEST
Korea: 9:00 am KST
EMEA: 10:00am CET
North America: 9:00am EST

We at least now have a release date, so for those of us wanting to complete the collection – mark the 20th of May in your diaries!

This was sent in a LEGO VIP email that I received this morning (buried underneath) some rather useless announcements – but it’s good to know!

Most interestingly in that blurb – LEGO have also announced that for those of you that missed out on the other VIP Coins (Classic Space, Pirates, Castle and Octan), they’ll be restocking the coins later this year!

This is absolutely due to the blowback and all the feedback from the LEGO fan community (you!) and also tons of discussions that have been occurring within the LEGO Ambassador Network, where a few of us have been advocating for more transparency, fairness and just an overall better system for VIP rewards.

This will be undoubtedly great news for those that missed out as these coins are being resold for pretty crazy amounts on eBay and the secondary market, so this is good news all around.

Kudos to LEGO for listening to the fans and for suffocating the resell market for these VIP rewards by increasing supply with a restock. I also think it’s a very positive move to allow those that missed out a second chance at the coins – especially the Classic Space Coin which sold out in record time.

It takes LEGO a while to move, but this is why I truly love the brand – they might not always get it right, but they do listen and take appropriate action, and I think the VIP team need to be commended for this move.

What do you think of this restock? Did you miss out on the VIP Coins? Will you try again once they’re re-released?

Can someone help me with the steps to redeem the coin?
I’ve got the code already but how do I add the coin to checkout and apply the code?
Can’t seem to find the coin in the shop?? Thanks.

  2. Shaun says:

YES!!! Finally they listened and made a good decision!! I am sooo fed up with resellers who only buy things for profit margins and ensure the true fans miss out on collecting VIP memorabilia.

    • Jay says:

Agreed – increasing supply is a great move all around. Those that were lucky to get the coins will probably feel a little less special, but on the most part, I think it’s a great move and I don’t hear anyone complaining.

  3. Jane says:

What do people do with these?

  4. Hmmn. In most regions, the coin will be released in the morning, but the North America time is 9:00 p.m.? That seems a bit odd. 😉

    • Jay says:

Hey John, so sorry, I made a typo with the time conversion and it should be 9am EST in North America!

      • Nate says:

HI Jay. Thanks for all the reporting in general, very informative. From those of us who read about the 9 pm mistake 3 days ago, set timers for 9 pm, and didnt happen to check your blog again before now, Id like to say Thanks a lot. It was a pretty big mistake.

Hi Nate, I’m so so sorry. I’ll try and be more careful around these details, especially where timing is concerned for a hotly anticipated item. LEGO have mentioned that the coins will be restocked, so hopefully you’ll be able to get it during the second drop.

  5. Colin says:

Is it a simple process to convert points to the VIP coins? How many points are needed per coin? My grandson would love them.

  6. Andy says:

    This is great news!

I’m not interested in the coins personally, but anything that addresses the scalping issue has to be a good thing.

Is it too much to hope that they might restock the Ulysses Probe?

  7. Andrew says:

This is definitely better news coming out of the VIP program. The more Lego can do to reduce scalping the better.

I would have thought it was in Lego’s best interests financially to have more of this kind of reward for VIP points – the coins would cost them only a fraction of the cost of providing a discount. I’ve never understood why there aren’t a lot more of these kinds of offers. Personally the coins aren’t my bag, but I’d happily trade points for a small set, and I would have loved the Winnie the Pooh prints.
