Early look at the 2022 LEGO Advent Calendars (Star Wars, Harry Potter, City and Friends)

June 9, 2022 By Jay 10 Comments

The 2HY Japanese LEGO Brand Catalogue has given us an early look at the new 2022 LEGO Star Wars, Harry Potter, Friends and City Advent Calendars, that are scheduled to arrive in September 2022 just before the holiday shopping season kicks off!

It might be only June, but I’m already excited for the annual Jay’s Brick Blog Advent Calendar Countdown in December, so I’m already planning which ones to get!

I don’t quite like Advent Calendar spoilers, so I won’t be sharing complete photos of all the contents as I believe it ruins the surprise, so I’m only really comfortable sharing packaging photos.

Do note that there are only 4 Advent Calendars featured in the catalogue. There isn’t a 2022 Marvel Advent Calendar featured, which is odd as the 2021 Marvel Advent Calendar was one of the favourites from last year.

My guess is that there will be a 2022 LEGO Marvel calendar, and it’ll be themed on the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which will be available on Disney+ later this year.

Let’s take a closer look at the box art and packaging of the 2022 LEGO Advent Calendars!

Here’s a look at the 2022 LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar – which looks like it’ll borrow heavily from the LEGO Star Wars Summer Vacation special that will air on Disney+ on 5 August 2022.

The box features a ton of spoilers as usual, but this looks to be another exceptionally fun year, with Darth Vader in a holiday singlet, C-3PO and R2-D2 in ugly Christmas sweaters, as well as a Santa Gonk Droid for the festive builds!

Also featured is a Landspeeder, T-16 Skyhopper, Bad Batch Shuttle, TIE Interceptor, Moisture Farm, and an AT-ST.

We had a look at Summer Darth Vader, and a sandcastle Darth Vader’s Castle from Star Wars Celebration 2022, but it’s nice to see some of the other builds.

Here’s a look at the 2022 LEGO Harry Potter Advent Calendar, which again, sems to feature some sort of game, where there’s a spinner dice – so once again, looking to replicate the features of the 2021 Harry Potter Advent Calendar.

There looks to be a photobook, with plenty of microbuilds, which I’m particularly excited about – the Hogwarts Express, Whomping Willow, Quidditch Goals are here, as is the Goblet of Fire.

Featured on the box is the Tonks and Harry Potter minifigures.

Here’s a look at the 2021 LEGO City Advent Calendar, which looks to be packed with minifigures, and animals as well.

There are 6 minifigures in total, and some animals including a grey kitten, and white foal which is nice to see, as well as your typical Christmas-themed mini-builds.

Some LEGO City Adventures characters make an appearance, such as Raze, from 60296 Wheelie Stunt Bike, Tippy Doorman, Madison Yea, Billy McCloud and also Mr Produce.

And last but not least is the 2022 Friends Advent Calendar, which features a new Santa Claus, which is exciting as we’ve never gotten a male Santa Claus minidoll before this. We also get Olivia, and some kids (Ava, and an unknown child) as well as a baby Reindeer!

The full lineup of 2022LEGO Advent Calendars should be available from September 2022 onwards, and they’ll be available from LEGO.com, and most toy stores.

Special thanks to Ashnflash for the heads up!

What do you think of the 2022 LEGO Advent Calendars? Will you be picking any up this year?

To follow the theme.. the Star Wars needs more minifigures and will be overpriced.

Sneaky suspicion Advent Calendars might cost AU$60 this year…. in keeping with everything else.

Jay, are you aware you didn’t finish off last year’s Friends calendar review, it’s missing the last day & final thoughts?

I’ve not bought every SW calendar, as they can be a bit ‘samey’, but I’ll be giving this year’s serious consideration.

Oh that’s so odd, I definitely remember updating the post, but not sure why it hasn’t reflected.

I’ll have to pop back and fix it up, thanks for the heads up!

This year’s SW looks like a fun one – love how many exclusive minifigs are included. If they throw in some great microbuilds, and keep weapons racks down to a minimum, it’ll be perfect.

I’ve been sorely tempted to get back into LEGO City Advent Calendars as it’s been years since I’ve done, so it’s on my radar this year!

My review of the new 75349 Captain Rex and 75350 C My review of the new 75349 Captain Rex and 75350 Clone Commander Cody is up, and here's a closer look at some of the details.

They both will be released on 1 March 2023, and will retail for US$69.99 / AU$99.99 / £59.99 and can be pre-ordered now.

I think both helmets are excellent additions to the LEGO Star Wars Helmet Collection. Both Phase 1 and Phase 2 Clone Trooper helmets translate incredibly well, and there are some masterful sculpting techniques and great use of negative space to get the look just right.

I have to say that I much prefer Commander Cody out of the two, because of the 212th's orange markings, and cool features like the visor and fin. Captain Rex, while having some cutting-edge building techniques have some really poorly colour-match stickers which distract from the otherwise great build.

Will you be planning on picking any of these up?

Special thanks to @lego for sending these early review sets over!
