Update: LEGO Bandmates Series 2 shows up on LEGO’s online shop

October 1, 2021 By Jay 2 Comments

So the ridiculousness surrounding Bandmates Series 2 continues to deepen, as Bandmates Series 2 went up online on the Australian and New Zealand online shop overnight, for $6 a pop. (ouch)

Update 2: It’s now the 1st of October in the UK and Europe and Bandmates Series 2 is also available for purchase in the United Kingdom. It’s safe to assume that they’ll also be available in the US when they tick over to October.

Thanks to Phillip C and AprilB for the heads up on this.

Yes, this is after I had shared info that Bandmates Series 2 would not be available in Australia, just 2 days ago.

I’d like to apologise for misleading anyone – this is incredibly frustrating, as I pride myself with doing as much due diligence as possible, to avoid sharing any incorrect information, and even actively avoid sharing information on rumoured sets etc that i cannot verify myself.

See below for my correspondence with my contact at LEGO Australia, which was the source of the article saying that Bandmates would not make its way to Australia and New Zealand.

This has honestly been a nightmare, trying to get direct information from LEGO themselves, and I’m not trying to say that I had been fed false information.

There is so much confusion currently around the fate of Bandmates Series 2 (hence why I reached out to LEGO Australia directly as I have a great relationship with them), and even on the LEGO Ambassador Network Forum, many Ambassadors have been trying to get some sort of clarification surrounding this for days now – but LEGO for some reason, are being a little cagey here.

Watch this space to see what else develops. I’ve made an order so we’ll see if they actually show up…

So I guess this is reasonably good news that it is available to purchase in Australia and New Zealand… and time will tell if it’ll also be available from LEGO in Western Europe, the UK, the US and other regions.

Again, apologies for causing any alarm!

Update: I’ve typed up a rant on Facebook because this has seriously annoyed me.

I feel you pain Jay, just order 20 s2 from SoH as well. I think this is all about LEGO protecting it’s Vidiyo brand and saving face with the Universal partnership. If its only on SoH, then we aren’t going to see it at every other outlet selling it at over 40% off. But to tell you it not happening and then a day later it just appears…..
It seems to be a trend lately, LEGO communication shooting itself in the foot for no reason at all. Perhaps its just a huge organisation and not everyone is on the same page. Its a slightly different issue to some of the Starwars stuff you covered a few weeks ago, but there is a common dominator, pi**ing off the fans for completely no reason at all.

Yup, that’s a really likely idea. LEGO has full control over pricing on their owned channels, so it does help it look less of a failure when Vidiyo is on deep clearance everywhere.

The frustrating thing, is that this could’ve been avoided – Ambassadors were actively trying to get responses from LEGO, to diffuse any confusion and calm down the rumour mill, but they were strangely cagey about it. It just makes our jobs of providing accurate, timely and trustworthy information much harder.
