Review: LEGO Marvel Minifigures Series 2
It’s a new chapter in LEGO Minifigures history with the long-awaited launch of LEGO Marvel Minifigures Series 2, and I’ve written an early review of this exciting new series aimed at fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
71039 Marvel Minifigures Series 2 will release on 1 September (October in ANZ), and will feature 12 all-new characters inspired by Marvel Studios TV shows, from Hawkeye to She-Hulk to Moon Knight and the upcoming X-Men 97 series.
This is the second LEGO Marvel minifigures series and a sequel to Marvel Series 1 which released in 2021.
71039 Marvel Minifigures Series 2 will be released on 1 September and will be priced at US$4.99 / AU$5.99 / £3.49 / €3.99 / CAD$5.99 and will be available from LEGO.com or most toy retailers.
Update: LEGO Marvel Series 2 six-pack boxes are now available from Amazon.com if you’re in North America. 6-pack boxes typically have 6 unique minifigures in them, and very low chances of doubles, so they’re usually a good way to start your collection.

Special thanks to The LEGO Group for sending these minifigures for review.
Here’s a look at the LEGO Marvel Minifigures Series 2 blind boxes, which will be the first LEGO Minifigures series to come in these new cardboard boxes. They’re fully recyclable and LEGO have done a great job here with the packaging and for eliminating all single use plastics.
Learn more about LEGO’s sustainable goals and why LEGO made the shift from blind bags to these recyclable blind boxes.
The boxes are well-designed and easy to rip open. They also rattle quite loudly as all the LEGO elements are inside the cardboard blister.
There are also 6-pack boxes that are available from or LEGO.com in the USA for US$29.99
LEGO Marvel Minifigures Box Order, Distribution and Weight Guide
The good news is that despite drastic changes in packaging, there are still three complete sets in each sealed box, which makes it a great option if you can split a fresh box with friends.
Here’s a look at the new boxes, which come in a larger box. There are 2 levels with 2 rows each containing9 boxes in each row.
Important Update: Boxes are now seemingly fully randomised, which means position of the packs will not be a reliable indicator of specific minifigures.
Here’s a look at how the new box compares with the older version, the last in blind bags being the Disney 100 Series. Truly an end of the era of feeling blind bags, which is a tradition stretching back since the original Series 1 debuted in 2010.
LEGO Marvel Series 2 Weight Guide
So how do you tell what minifigures are which now that Feel Guides are no longer possible? You’ll need to weigh them! If you’re determined to avoid gambling with these blind boxes, and only want specific minifigures, I highly recommend investing in a set of sensitive scales.
I used this one that I got from Amazon Australia, and there are similar alternatives from Amazon.com as well. The variances between some minifigures are incredibly minute, with milligrams being the difference between some characters, so you’ll need a sensitive scale, and regular kitchen scales might not be up to the task.
Kate Bishop | 20.9g / 0.73oz | Echo | 17.4g / 0.61oz |
Moon Knight | 19.4g / 0.68oz | Beast | 19.0g / 0.67 oz |
Hawkeye | 18.0g / 0.63 oz | She-Hulk | 19.0g / 0.67 oz |
Mr. Knight | 18.3g / 0.64oz | Storm | 19.6g / 0.69 oz |
Agatha Harkness | 21.9g / 0.77oz | Werewolf | 17.3g / 0.61oz |
Wolverine | 19.1g / 0.67oz | Goliath | 17.8g / 0.62oz |
Do note that there might be some variances with weight due to differences in the cardboard box, so if it’s off by a few milligrams, that’s usually fine.
The tricky ones are Beast and She-Hulk which have near-identical weights. Beast will rattle a lot more as there are more elements in the box.
Here’s a look at the character checklist and leaflet, and instructions on the reverse side.
Here’s the complete list of characters, along with their official names.
- Agatha Harkness
- Moon Knight
- Mr. Knight
- The Werewolf
- She-Hulk
- Hawkeye
- Kate Bishop
- Goliath
- Echo
- Beast
- Storm
- Wolverine
If you click the name of each minifigure, you’ll instantly jump to the corresponding minifigure review! With blind bags out, there won’t be feel guides, but
If you’re new to my LEGO Minifigure reviews, I use a 5-point scale review scale to rate each minifig. Here’s what the numbers mean!
5/5 – I love it
4/5 – I really like it
3/5 – I like it
2/5 – I don’t like it
1/5 – I didn’t really like it
0/5 – I hate it
Now all that’s done, let’s jump straight into the LEGO Marvel Minifigures Series 2 review!
1. Agatha Harkness
First up we have Agatha Harkness, the primary antagonist of Wandavision and also the upcoming Agatha: Coven of Chaos series which will premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2024.
Agatha is a great minifigure, and fans of Wandavision have been waiting a long time to get their hands on her, as she makes for a great companion to Marvel Series 1’s Scarlet Witch.
Agatha’s minifigure has detailed printing across her torso and skirt piece, with the fabric detail extending quite seamlessly. She comes with a purple fabric cape, and two trans-purple power blasts
Here’s a look at her back printing, which extends down the back of her skirt piece.
Agatha’s primary accessory is the Darkhold, also known as the Book of the Damned, a spell book containing dark magic spells, which even has a printed tile on the inside with the Scarlet Witch.
Oh and the best part of Agatha? Her alternate face which has the Agatha Harkness winking meme!
Agatha Harkness is a great addition to be displayed with Scarlet Witch from Marvel Series 1. It’s been a long wait, but the minifigure is exactly what you’d like from an Agatha minifigure and as an added bonus, it also doubles up as a great witch minifigure that will come in handy for Halloween.
Minifig Rating: 4/5
Blind Box Weight: 21.9g / 0.77 oz
2. Moon Knight
Moon Knight is hands down the best minifigure of Marvel Series 2 and a strong contender for Minifigure of the Year. Moon Knight’s elaborate mummy-esque details are rendered amazingly across every single surface and it’s been a while since I’ve had a Collectible Minifigure make me go, wow!
He comes with a new cowl with a moon symbol on his forehead and just looks absolutely terrific.
Moon Knight comes with two accessories, a pair of Scarabs and his signature Crescent Blades, but pay special attention to the arm and leg printing which looks gorgeous, with sharp lines and detail across every minifigure surface that LEGO can print on.
Absolutely zero real estate is wasted here.
Here’s a look at the back of the minifigure and Moon Knight’s alternate face which has Marc Spector’s face on it, looking like he’s in mid-transformation.
Moon Knight is simply exxceptional, and one of the most detailed LEGO Minifigures ever. The printing is near-flawless and I’m amazed at just how much care and attention went into Moon Knight’s design.
Moon Knight is LEGO Minifigures at its finest, and it’s not hyperbolic to call this one of the most detailed LEGO minifigures and something for fans to cherish. He’s absolutely going to be the chase minifigure in Marvel Series 2.
Minifig Rating: 5/5
Blind Box Weight: 19.4g / 0.68oz
3. Mr. Knight
Joining Moon Knight is Mr. Knight, another one of Marc Spector’s alter-egos. Eschewing Egyptian mummy garb for a more distinguished 3-piece suit, Mr. Knight is a more cerebral and levelled alter-egos and is dressed accordingly with a white mask, and sharp suit, all in monochrome white.
He comes with a pair of truncheons and a goldfish accessory, a nod to the first episode of Moon Knight which is titled The Goldfish Problem.
Mr. Knight’s appearance isn’t as impressive as Moon Knight’s but more than meets the brief and is a nice companion to the vastly superior Moon Knight.
A very welcome accessory is this aquarium which has decorations printed on a trans-2×1 brick. It has Gus the one-finned Goldfish in it, complete with the pyramid aquarium ornament.
Here’s Moon Knight and Mr. Knight together and they look great as a pair. I do think iy would’ve been way better if we had Scarlet Scarab included as well with how prominent she was in the TV series, and how cool her character design is.
Maybe we’ll see her in Marvel Series 3, assuming Disney+ and the MCU doesn’t collapse by then.
Blind Box Weight: 18.3g / 0.64oz
Minifig Rating: 3/5
4. The Werewolf
Up next we have a minifigure dedicated to the Disney+ special Werewolf by Night, a short TV special that explored the fantasy horror genre within the MCU. Jack Russell as his name suggests is a monster hunter turned werewolf and looks decent enough in this minifigure rendition.
Like other characters in this series, we’re treated to a highly detailed minifigure and I especially like the fur detailing throughout his body, with printing across his arms, legs and the side of his legs.
His wig is also new and looks like a modified Hobbit wig with pointy ears moulded in.
His accessory is the Bloodstone, a powerful magical artifact that was central to the Werewolf by Night plot.
I’m not particularly attached to the Werewolf by Night series, but quality-wise this is a pretty good minifigure, even if its a little boring and formulaic. But hey, with Halloween approaching, it does make for a fun addition for those that like to collect Spooky-themed minifigures.

Minifig Rating: 3/5
5. She-Hulk
Next, we have the long-awaited re-release of She-Hulk minifigure, based on her Disney+ series version where Tatiana Maslany plays the Hulk’s lawyer cousin, Jen Walters.
The She-Hulk minifigure was only ever released once in 76078 Hulk vs. Red Hulk from 2017, and it’s been one of the rarer and more expensive characters on the aftermarket, but now this re-issue should enable fans to not have to overspend to get her.
The She-Hulk minifigure features highly detailed prints of her TV-show suit, and I really like what they’ve done with the leg printing.
Her boot design in particular is excellent and combined with dual-moulded legs showcases a big step up in minifigure printing accuracy as the lines just extend over seamlessly from the front to side.
With She-Hulk best known for her fourth-wall breaking antics, fans will be delighted with her accessories. First, there’s a 2×3 printed tile with a legal file for Emil Blonsky aka the Abomination. The initials GLK&H (Goodman, Lieber, Kurtzberg & Holliway) are for the law firm that she works at.
She also come with a phone, with Wong, the Sorcerer Supreme making a call!
Here’s a comparison with the 2017 She-Hulk. The printing and design is much-improved, but I do kinda miss the simplicity of the older She-Hulk costume which is more comic-accurate.
That said, the new She-Hulk is a superb LEGO minifigure and one of the standouts of Series 2. I imagine she’ll be a fairly popular minifigure from this series.
Blind Box Weight: 19.0g / 0.67oz
Minifig Rating: 4/5
6. Hawkeye (Clint Barton)
Next up we have Clint Barton, better known as Hawkeye, one of the founding members of the Avengers and co-star of the Hawkeye TV series. He’s in his purple outfit here and features a new medium tan wig, first used for Olly from LEGO Friends.
Most interestingly, Hawkeye comes with a new bow element in black, which has a more modern design, and is so much more accurate to the ones he wields in the movies or TV series.
His arm printing is a little faded, mostly as a result of printing a light colour on a dark base, and here’s a look at his alternate face, and back printing.
Fans of the Hawkeye TV series will be delighted to see the inclusion of this adorable (but deadly!) baby owl, a brand new mould and one for LEGO animal collectors to get excited about.
Here’s a comparison with an adult LEGO owl. The Baby Owl is a nice surprise and it’s great to see LEGO still using the Collectible LEGO Minifigures series to introduce new animal moulds.
Personally, I’m way more excited about the Baby Owl than Hawkeye, mostly because I have so many Hawkeye minifigures from years of collecting LEGO Marvel sets!
Blind Box Weight: 18g / 0.63oz
Minifig Rating: 3/5
7. Kate Bishop
Joining Hawkeye is also Hawkeye, also known as Kate Bishop who is played by Hailee Steinfeld in the Disney+ series. It’s a superb minifigure and also one that fans of the MCU will welcome given the fairly positive reception to the series.
Kate Bishop’s outfit is fantastic with the LEGO designers making great use of colours and subtle use of side leg printing and arm printing to enhance the screen-accuracy of her minifigure.
Like Clint Barton, she also comes with the new bow, in brown.
Kate Bishop also comes with Lucky the Pizza Dog, a one-eyed golden retriever which recolours the Golden Retriever element in medium nougat and also features one eye, which is super endearing.
Kate Bishop is a welcome addition to anyone’s LEGO Marvel collection, and you’re getting a lot of bang for your buck here with Lucky, a new bow and of course a minifigure with very satisfying details and prints.
Blind Box Weight: 20.9g/ 0.73oz
Minifig Rating: 4/5
8. Goliath
Up next we have Goliath, which I’m guessing is from the coming Marvel What If…? Season 2, as this is a completely new suit, which riffs off the Ant-Man design.
I do like the colour scheme and futuristic design, which looks generic enough that you cvould repurpose it quite easily for a sci-fi or space MOC.
Again, we’re treated to more incredible arm and side leg printing, which I do wish would become the norm with LEGO Marvel minifigures found in regular sets.
Unmasking Goliath, we have Bill Foster’s face underneath. As What If Season 2 isn’t out yet, it’s really hard to make a connection with Goliath, so I feel fairly detached from this minfigure.
Bill Foster does come with an Ant-Man statuette! The design of it is quite clever, as it functions both as Goliath being normal-sized and Ant-Man being tiny, or Goliath being supersized and Ant-Man being regular-sized.
Eagle-eyed Marvel fans will realise that this is a brand new Ant-Man statuette design that’s different to the original statuette, and also the one found in 76192 Avengers: Endgame Final Battle.
All in all, Goliath is a decent minifigure, but it feels quite out of place in this series, especially with Season 2’s release date up in the air, and only likely to arrive in 2024, making it quite hard to connect with Goliath.
Blind Box Weight: 17.8g / 0.62oz
Minifig Rating: 3/5
9. Echo
Next up we have Echo, aka Maya Lopez, who featured in Hawkeye and will also have her own series on Disney+ in November 2023. Echo is one of the most impressive minifigures in this series with incredible detailing across her entire body.
She’d be an outstanding minifigure if not for her really random accessory – some sort of club, or is it some skewers? I really have no idea what this is.
The print quality on her minifigure is on the same level as Moon Knight, with LEGO utilising nearly every single available surface.
Even her braids are printed, which is not something you see every day on minifigures!
What’s super impressive and one of her most remarkable features is her prosthetic leg, which is a brand new mould. It has a cutout on the side which is really cool and even printing on the side and front.
If only Echo had a better accessory, she’d easily be on par with Moon Knight in terms of quality. Fingers crossed her TV series isn’t terrible – if it’s well-received by fans, it’ll make this minifigure quite desirable.
Blind Box Weight: 17.4g / 0.61oz
Minifig Rating: 4/5
10. Beast
Moving on to the long-awaited return of the X-Men, we have Hank McCoy, aka Beast making his debut as a LEGO minifigure! With the upcoming release of X-Men 97 on Disney+, X-Men are now back in play for LEGO and this series is a harbinger of things to come for LEGO.
Beast looks fantastic rendered in blue, with plenty of fur detailing across his body and a primary face featuring Hank’s thoughtful face with glasses on.
Beast comes with fitting accessories, including brick-built microscope.
And most excitingly, this yellow mug with X-Men logo on it. Beast’s new wig is also great and I really like how closely it matches the X-Men cartoon design, complete with the black streaks on the side.
Here’s a look at Beast’s alternate face which has an angry expression.
As one of the core characters of the 90s X-Men cartoon, Beast is a welcome addition to the LEGO Marvel lineup, and fans will be very happy with what LEGO have done here.
Unfortunately, Beast’s blank arms and lack of side leg printing really stands out here, amongst all the other brilliant minifigures in this series who are just enveloped in printing.
Blind Box Weight: 19g / 0.67oz
Minifig Rating: 3/5
11. Storm
Next we have a familiar face, Ororo Munroe aka Storm, the second in command of the X-Men. A mutant with the ability to manipulate the weather, she’s considered one of the most powerful mutants alive.
This isn’t Storm’s first appearance as a LEGO, having appeared in 2014’s 76022 X-Men vs The Sentinel but this is her first appearance in her white suit, which imho, is such an iconic look for her.
She has two bolts of lightning and sees the return of the cape with holes for her arms.
The cape looks great, and so is her brand new wig, which has her hair styled up as a mohawk, which looks fantastic and contrasts very nicely against her darker complexion.
Here’s a look at Storm’s uniform without the cape.
This X-Men 97 version of Storm is outstanding, and captures Storm’s most recognisable look in stunning fashion. I do wish we got an alternate head with her lightning erupting from her eyes for an action-oriented alternative, which I think would’ve made this a near-perfect rendition.
Blind Box Weight: 198.6g / 0.69oz
Minifig Rating: 4/5
12. Wolverine
And last but not least, we have Wolverine, the poster-child of the X-Men. this is one of Logan’s best minifigure variants, with yellow and blue on full display here, as well as the short blue sleeves.
Wolverine has a brand new look, with a new mask that has more dramatic “ears” and I also really like Logan’s hairy forearms. The dual-moulded legs and generous leg printing also gives the Wolverine minifigure bonus style points.
Here’s a look at Wolverine’s back printing.
Unfortunately the spray job on Wolverine’s mask isn’t the greatest and there are splotches near the edges.
For the bonus accessory, Wolverine comes with a Sentinel’s head, printed on pink cloche. I like the damaged look with Wolverine’s Adamantium claws carved through the Sentinel’s face.
And here’s Logan’s face and hair as an alternative to the Wolverine mask. The sideburns are great and I also kinda dig the goggle look which whites out Wolverine’s eyes when he has his mask on.
Don’t get me wrong, this is a great Wolverine minifigure, probably the best one that LEGO has ever produced. But with Wolverine recently making an appearance in a Mech Armour, it feels a bit like a wasted slot in a 12-character series, where more obscure characters that might not have the opportunity to show up in regular sets should have been given the time to shine.
Also slightly miffed they didn’t include a tile for the photo frame so we could re-create the Sad Wolverine meme!
Blind Box Weight: 19.1g / 0.67oz
Minifig Rating: 3/5
Oh and each minifigure comes with these stands and stalks that allow you to pose the minifgiures in dramatic and dynamic styles.
Final Thoughts:
LEGO Marvel Minifigures Series 2 will have the unfortunate honour of being completely overshadowed by the transition from blind bags to blind boxes, effectively eliminating a tradition that has been in place since 2010.
If you’ve been following my blog, you’ll know that my positition on this has been clear, I do not support the switch to pure blind boxes, as it encourages gambling, and the uncertainty of what you will get, something that most people can’t afford to do. LEGO could’ve easily included some hidden code or symbol on each box to identify what’s inside, but their unwillingness to do so just reeks of not listening to longtime fans and punishing Minifigure fans.
Now that it’s out of the way, this is a pretty decent licensed Minifigures Series, with some questionable choices with the lineup of characters. It’s always a difficult balancing game when the IP holder, in this case, Marvel usually dictates what characters get included, and when many of the planned 2023 releases have been delayed like What If.. and Agatha: Coven of Chaos, it does mean that you’re left with some characters that feel out of place.
I feel like characters like Hawkeye, Wolverine, Goliath, and maybe even The Werewolf could’ve been far better utilised on more important characters like the Scarlet Scarab, Kang the Conqueror, Loki’s Mobius, Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel), Vision (from Wandavision), or even someone from Secret Invasion, or an OG X-Men character like Gambit, Rogue or Jubilee.
Kang might’ve been cut due to Jonathon Major’s legal troubles and his uncertain future with the MCU, but the character selection is by far the weakest here.
There are some bright spots, such as the high level of printing quality, and minifigure design which seems to have been elevated, and of course the sensational Moon Knight, which might be one of the finest LEGO minifigures that LEGO have ever made.
Here are my top 5 from Marvel Series 2
- Moon Knight
- Storm
- Agatha Harkness
- She-Hulk
- Kate Bishop
Marvel fans will no doubt be happy with the selection, but you’ll likely be left thinking if this was the best LEGO Marvel roster for Series 2.
Overall Rating: 3/5 ★★★☆☆
71039 Marvel Minifigures Series 2 will be released on 1 September 2023 and will be priced at US$4.99 / AU$5.99 / £3.49 / €3.99 / CAD$5.99 and will be available from LEGO.com or most toy retailers. Australia and New Zealand will get these in October.
What do you think of the LEGO Marvel Series 2? Will you be getting an entire set/box or hoping you get the minifigures you want by buying random boxes?
