Review: LEGO 60376 Arctic Explorer Snowmobile

2023 is shaping up to be a fantastic year for LEGO City Arctic fans, with so many great sets that revolve around Arctic animals old and new.

The smallest and most affordable set in the wave is 60376 Arctic Explorer Snowmobile AKA the LEGO Seal Battle Pack as it comes with a brand new seal and seal pup element! Priced at  US$10.99 /  AU$16.99 / £8.99, this is really well-priced and a more than viable way to amass a pod of LEGO seals without breaking the bank.

If you’re in Australia, Kmart has it on sale for an incredible AU$10, which is just exceptional value, and I wasted no time picking up a few extra boxes to establish a LEGO seal colony, complete with plenty of baby seals!

Let’s take a quick look at 60376 Arctic Explorer Snowmobile which is available now in the UK, EU and Australia, and will be available in the US from 1 August onwards.

Who is this set for? Anyone who wants a LEGO Seal and Seal Pup

Special thanks to LEGO for sending these sets over for this review.

60376 Arctic Explorer Snowmobile Set Details

Set number: 60376
Set name: Arctic Explorer Snowmobile
Pieces: 70
Retail Price: US$10.99 / AU$16.99 / £8.99 / €9,99
Theme: City
Release Date: 1 June 2023 (EU, AU, UK) / 1 August 2023 (US & Canada)

The set comes with one minifigure, a female Arctic Explorer who’s out on the ice to mount a video camera to observe and document the seals for study.

She comes with the Hidden Side Parker beanie and hair combo hairpiece, which is new in this colour. It’s a decent minifigure, with detailed torso and leg prints, and as a bonus, also comes with a new recoloured backpack.

Here’s a look at her alternate face, and a better look at her backpack, which made its debut in LEGO Minifigures Series 16’s Hiker, recoloured to blue and turquoise.

She also comes with a helmet with goggles, which comes in handy when she’s riding the snowmobile.

The set comes with a snowmobile, which is a small but competent build. As I bought several of these sets, I have plans to make a small fleet of these snowmobiles, which thematically, do work well for traversing the Arctic expanse.

The silhouette is quite nice, and I do like the use of the Technic element for the back skates, which gives it a really interesting orientation.

Oh, and if you’ve noticed, the set ha no stickers! The new Arctic logo is printed on the curved slope on the front, which is another excellent touch.

While the build and minifigure are nice, the stars of the set are the adult seal and seal pup, two brand new LEGO animals introduced for the first time in 2023! There’s a small section of ice, and arctic sea where you can place both animals, and even a green fish for them to feast on.

I’m a HUGE fan of LEGO animals, so this was one of the new Summer 2023 City sets I was looking forward to the most, and the LEGO seal and baby seal do not disappoint!

I was mostly surprised by how large and substantial the adult grey seal was – here’s a comparison with some smaller-sized LEGO animals to illustrate how big the adult seal is, and how cute the baby seal is.

The baby seal is right up there with the LEGO piglet as one of the cutest LEGO animals ever, and I love that it can also “ride” the mumma seal via the stud on the adult seal’s back.

I was sent this set for review by LEGO.. but I wasted no time picking up another 5 boxes because I just wanted to make a Seal Team Six joke. And mostly because I think the set is great value with how big the adult seal is, and how cute the baby seal is.

Observing LEGO animal prices on LEGO Pick a Brick online, I did the math in my head, and expect the both the adult seal and baby seal to be quite expensive, so with the set being AU$10 at Kmart, it really was a no-brainer for me.

It’s legitimately a great set to buy multiples of as you can use the ice and sea pieces to create a massive iceberg, or frozen section for the seals to hang out at, which mimics real-world seals and how they congregate in herds or pods.

And without further ado, please enjoy photos of my Seal Team Six, and Baby Seal Team Six.

What I liked:

  • LEGO Seal and Seal Pups are just adorable
  • A great LEGO animal battle pack, especially if you can get in on sale
  • Really usable elements

What I didn’t like:

  • Not much at all!

Final Thoughts

As a big fan of LEGO animals, 60376 Arctic Explorer Snowmobile gets my seal of approval.

LEGO choosing to debut 2 great animal moulds, an adult seal and a seal pup in the most affordable LEGO City set is great value, and I was very impressed with how large and impressive the adult seal was.

It’s scaled nicely next to a LEGO minifigure, and feels really substantial, so despite only getting 2 animals, this feels like such an upgrade on the Otter Battle Pack (60394 ATV and Otter Habitat) from earlier this year.

Most people will buy the set for the seals, but I also like that the builds and minifigure included are nicely designed too – the snowmobiles are superb, and I already have plans of parking them in my LEGO Winter Village, and the ice pieces are also really useful to create snow-covered landscapes, making this an excellent LEGO set to buy multiples of.

If you’re in Australia, you can’t go wrong with picking this up from Kmart, or even Amazon, where it’s already discounted from full price.

Great set, with two fantastic LEGO animals that won’t break the banks – I hope this review seals the deal for you.

Build [3] – Fairly simple build for a small set, but I like the plethora of useful elements included
Real Value [4] – Superbly priced especially as you get a large snowmobile, great minifigure, and 2 new LEGO animals
Innovation [4] – As a small set, it’s clear that LEGO packed a lot of value here to encourage seal army building
Coolness [4] – Two awesome new LEGO animals make this set incredibly cool.
Keepability [3] – If buying multiples, you’re likely going to cannibalise the other builds for parts, but the seals make for excellent additions to your LEGO menagerie.

Rating and score: 4/5 ★★★★✰

Thanks so much for reading my review of 60376 Arctic Explorer Snowmobile! The set will be released on 1 June in Australia, the UK and EU, and 1 August for North America.

What do you think of the 60376 Arctic Explorer Snowmobile? Do you want to see more animal battle packs like this?
