LEGO Power Rankings – March 2023

We’re now a week and a half into April, so it’s time to update the Jay’s Brick Blog LEGO Power Rankings list, which ranks my personal LEGO sets of the year in a Top 10 list format, which changes every month as new releases get added.

I skipped February 2023 as I got caught up with the deluge of news and reviews then, but I’ve added into the February 2023 update below to demonstrate how the rankings have moved.

I also include a small summary of new reviews, and major news headlines from March, as well as interesting LEGO news, MOCs and videos from across the web.

Here’s an updated running list of my Top 10 best LEGO sets of 2023 so far!

March 2023 LEGO Power Rankings

Do note that this list only includes LEGO sets that were released up to March 2023, and doesn’t include any of the new April releases.

It’s been a good start so far, as we’ve published reviews of 8 out of the Top 10 sets. I’m definitely aiming to review Jay’s Titan Mech and we also have a review of 2022 Ford GT coming soon too.

  1. 10316 The Lord of the Rings Rivendell [review] [Rating: 5/5  ★★★★★]
  2. 31208 Hokusai The Great Wave [review] [Rating: 5/5  ★★★★★]
  3. 21336 A-Frame Cabin [review] [Rating: 4/5  ★★★★✰]
  4. 10312 Jazz Club [review] [Rating: 4/5  ★★★★✰]
  5. 71037 LEGO Minifigures Series 24 [review] [Rating: 4/5  ★★★★✰]
  6. 76917 2 Fast 2 Furious Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34) [review] [Rating: 4/5  ★★★★✰]
  7. 41732 Downtown Flower and Design Stores [review] [Rating: 4/5  ★★★★✰]
  8. 80111 Lunar New Year Parade [review] [Rating: 4/5  ★★★★✰]
  9. 42154 2022 Ford GT
  10. 71785 Jay’s Titan Mech

It’s no surprise that with March’s release of 10316 Rivendell, it would rocket right up to the top of the Power Rankings.

I’m unabashedly a LEGO Lord of the Rings fan, so the challenge for LEGO is whether they’ll be able to release anything this year that will knock it off the number 1 spot.

New entrants also included the 42154 2022 Ford GT which debuted at the #9 slot. I’m not a big Technic fan, but I got the opportunity to see it in-store and it looks fantastic, and isn’t too badly priced too. Guest reviewer Vaderfan will be reviewing the set soon, so keep an eye out for it.

What are Power Rankings?

Essentially, they’re commonly used in sports leagues like the NBA to track and compare the best/worst performing teams, often changing weekly based on results and how teams play.

I often get asked via email or on social media what the best sets of the (insert current) year/month are, and I usually rattle off what I personally like, so to start 2022, I’ve decided to start a regular series where I track and rank what the best 10 LEGO sets are at the end of each month.

This isn’t meant to be scientific or data-driven (some of these I haven’t personally built/own yet) – just my personal opinion of what I think are the best LEGO sets of 2022!

Of course, for a more comprehensive evaluation of LEGO sets, you can read my LEGO reviews for more detailed opinions. For sets that I’ve reviewed, I’ll also include the scores next to the power rankings, but it’s quite unlikely that I’ll get to review every amazing set of 2022 – I sometimes build and miss out reviewing due to time/scheduling issues.
