LEGO 40485 FC Barcelona Celebration gift with purchase (GWP) unveiled!

August 30, 2021 By Jay 4 Comments

Overnight, the Australian LEGO.com store gave us our first official look at 40485 FC Barcelona Celebration. The set is an upcoming gift with purchase (GWP) promotional set for what is almost assuredly a new Barcelona Camp Nou stadium (one of the worst kept secrets this year), that will be in the same vein as 2020’s 10272 Old Traffford.

For the non-sportsball fans, Barcelona is a Catalan club that plays in the La Liga, that’s best known as being Lionel Messi’s ex-football club.

UPDATE (30/8): LEGO have begun teasing the Camp Nou LEGO set on social media, suggesting a reveal will be very soon!

The GWP comes in at 178 pieces, and features 5 FC Barcelona supporters (one is missing from the official set photo) celebrating at Font de Canaletes, a landmark in Barcelona where football fans congregate after matches – a tradition that dates back to the 1930s.

I’m really jealous that you get 5 minifigures with Barcelona jerseys/torsos and great stickers for the flags – something that we never quite got with the Old Trafford set.

The closest we got were these plain-torso (but with squad numbers on the back) minifigures of Man United’s Trinity.

I also like the presence of a fan in a wheelchair, which is a lovely move by LEGO to celebrate diversity and inclusion for wheelchair users.

There are no other details such as spend or purchase requirements/thresholds, but it’s very safe to expect that this will be given out with the release of the LEGO Camp Nou set, whose release is almost imminent.

I really hope that it’ll be like the mini Adidas Superstar GWP, where the set is available for a specific purchase threshold, instead of it being solely tied to purchase of the LEGO Camp Nou set, as that’ll motivate to try for it.

I’m a massive football fan, but don’t quite favour FC Barcelona, so I’ll most likely skip the set, but the minifigures are tempting from a collector’s standpoint.

Anyway, stay tuned and be sure to be subscribed to the blog for the official reveal of Camp Nou, which is imminent!

What a great GWP – if it’s possible to get it this without buying the Stadium – i’ll be on this.

Fingers crossed! That’ll almost guarantee me spending my money on LEGO.com if I don’t need to get the stadium.

Interesting that the box art differs to the set pictures. The offical description states 4 minifigs but 5 are pictured on LEGO.com. Has this happened before, I can’t think of an example.

Like you Jay, I’m hoping it’s a GWP for a certain threshold rather than tied to a set. I’m keen for the minifigs. I’m surprised LEGO hasn’t filtered generic sports jerseys into the City theme as plenty of people wear supporter gear the world over.

Yeah, plus the missing large flag as well.

If they manage to churn out an EPL or Champions League series, I can almost guarantee it would be one of the best-selling series ever haha. But that’s a pretty clever idea, and I’d love for them to make something like that happen via their Adidas partnership.

Happy International @LEGO Day! The 28th of Januar Happy International @LEGO Day!

The 28th of January commemorates the date where the first patent for the iconic LEGO brick was filed with the Danish Patent and Trademark Office in Denmark by then-owner Godtfred Kirk Christiansen.

Here's a photo of the patent which is on display in the history section of the @legohouse, which I got to see last year when I visited Billund!

There's tons of incredible historical artifacts, and I've also shared some other displays that commemorated this part of LEGO's history!

I think both helmets are excellent additions to the LEGO Star Wars Helmet Collection. Both Phase 1 and Phase 2 Clone Trooper helmets translate incredibly well, and there are some masterful sculpting techniques and great use of negative space to get the look just right.

I have to say that I much prefer Commander Cody out of the two, because of the 212th's orange markings, and cool features like the visor and fin. Captain Rex, while having some cutting-edge building techniques have some really poorly colour-match stickers which distract from the otherwise great build.

Will you be planning on picking any of these up?

Special thanks to @lego for sending these early review sets over!
