Review: LEGO 60404 Burger Truck

The start of 2024 is all about food trucks, and one of the first sets I picked up in the New Year was 60404 Burger Truck, a small but feature-packed LEGO City vehicle that’s filled with flavour and fun.

It joins a long and storied line of LEGO City Food trucks, like 2017’s Pizza Van, 60253 Ice Cream Truck and last year’s very fun Penguin Slushy Van. I have a soft spot in my collection for these food-themed vehicles, which made the Burger Truck a priority for me, especially as it was a fairly inexpensive set.

Read on for a quick review of the LEGO City Burger Truck!

60404 Burger Truck is available from LEGO.com, in-store, on Amazon or in most toy stores. If you’re in Australia, you can pick it up from Kmart for only AU$22.

One of the things that surprised me most about the LEGO City Burger Truck was that there were no stickers! I’ve opened up a few 2024 LEGO City sets (including some of the new Space sets) and I still have not encountered any stickers which is really interesting as you typically expect sticker sheets in City sets.

So yes, all the decorations in the City Burger Truck are printed!

The LEGO City Truck comes with 2 minifigures and they’re excellent additions to your collection. We have a female burger flipper and a male customer.

I really like the torso print on the burger flipper, with some black overalls and flames over a burger. and the male minifigure has a nice denim jacket over a shirt with a vinyl record on it.

Here’s a look at their back prints, and the burger flipper’s alternate face.

One of the best parts of the set is the inclusion of this minifigure wig, which has a cochlear implant moulded to it! It’s so cool to see LEGO step up their efforts to improve representation and I think this is a great new piece for LEGO fans who have a cochlear implant, or know someone with one – a small but very significant move in enabling them to see themselves in minifigure form.

LEGO has of course produced minifigures with hearing aids (printed on minifigure heads), but the moulded cochlear implant on a hairpiece is a small but significant development and I especially like that they included it in a very affordable and accessible LEGO City set.

Here’s the LEGO Burger Truck, a small but meaty little build that’s one of the most visually distinctive City sets in a while.

The Truck itself is quite plain, but I do like that it’s in black, a rather uncommon LEGO City truck colour, and the inclusion of these 2×6 printed flame files on each side are an excellent piece of decoration, which also function as a visual gag to highlight that the burgers are flame-grilled!

The Burger Stand is easily detached from the truck, and functions as a small standalone burger booth!

The design is simple, but has all the ingredients you need for a succulent burger – with a slice of cheese, a meat patty, slice of tomato, lettuce and interestingly a slice of beetroot. I was very surprised to see some beetroot as this is a very Australian thing to do with burgers – and I wholeheartedly approve!

It’s a pretty competent burger, although personally, I’m not a fan of seeded buns. Everyone knows brioche buns are the best for burgers, but the sesame seeds that top the bun does give it a more conventional burger look, so I’ll allow them here.

The insides of the Burger Stand are pretty cramped, as you can expect from a food truck, but I do like that there’s a grille with a patty being cooked, as well as the placement of a contactless Square-type payment tile at the front – a very common sight to see with food trucks.

Here’s a look at the sign on the Burger Stand, which again, I cannot believe is printed.

Whatever it is that’s going on in LEGO City needs to continue – all printed elements, a fun very playable and visually impressive build all come together to make 60404 Burger Truck a most tasty introduction 2024 LEGO City set!

What I liked:

  • All printed elements
  • Fun design that can easily be incorporated into most builds, even your Modular Street
  • New LEGO wig with cochlear implant
  • Priced really well

What I didn’t like:

  • Nothing at all

Final Thoughts:

60404 Burger Truck is LEGO City done right. A small, affordable set that packs plenty of fun into a very delicious package – just like a juicy real-life burger!

There’s a lot to like here, but the most pleasant surprise is that there isn’t any stickers, so all the fantastic decorations are all printed, with the flame tile being the most useful one.

The minifigures are also great, with a Burger chef, and also the inclusion of the new cochlear implant wig which is a superb new accessory that drives forward LEGO’s goal of improving representation and diversity within its sets.

Most of all, this set is great value. It’s plenty of fun for younger LEGO fans as you get a truck, and a detachable Burger Stand which makes for a very playable all-in-one set.

For adults, you get the fun novelty factor of a Burger Truck that’s more than ready to park itself in your LEGO City, theme park, park, or in front of your Modular buildings, plus, no pesky stickers!

If you’re itching to buy and build a fun set that won’t break the bank, there’s no shortage of praise I can heap on 60404 Burger Truck. It’s a whopper of a set, and a fine example of LEGO City done just right.

I’m American so I also see the purple layer as red onion. But now I want to try a burger with beet!

This set was quick and fun to build, and goes great with the slushy van and retro hotdog truck. It comes with two bags and two instruction booklets, so my husband and I built it together.

  2. Ryan S says:

Fairly certain that pinkish layer is red onion, though I admire the local perspective!

  3. Professor Death says:

This is a nice little set. It’s a shame the customer doesn’t have beetroot on his burger thought. I’ll have to remedy that!

  4. Anonymous says:

This one would have been perfect if not for the headpiece on the burger flipper. With the hat that sticks out in front AND the hair that sticks out behind, it’s almost impossible to fit her into the already-cramped driver’s seat of the truck.

  5. Brick HQ says:

Awesome set, great addition to the food truck collection

  6. Mike Montross says:

A great set. The burger stand looks like those made by Sembo Block and other brands a few years ago. The truck would need to add your own 6 stud wide plate and add some side and rear fencing. Too bad there is no number plate for the truck

  7. Big Train Bricks says:

I have the the Crime Lab Truck and it has stickers. I also would recomend it to review it is one real cool set.

  8. Andrew Gardiner says:

Maybe the lack of stickers is to make it easier for young kids.
As an conventional old Aussie I say ‘Yes’ to beetroot but ‘No’ to brioche buns

  9. Joe B. says:

At first I didn’t catch that layer you called beetroot. As an American, I’ve never heard of putting that on a burger, but that could be a red onion for me.
