Review: LEGO Build-a-Minifigure (BAM) Q1 January 2024

A new year means new LEGO Build-a-Minifigure exclusives! Depending on where you are in the world, you will be able to start finding the Q1 January 2024 BAM minifigures out in the wild!

To kick off the first quarter (Q1) of 2024, we have 7 new characters to collect, with some interesting new faces and accessories to collect, as well as some nostalgic Castle and Pirate options for army builders.

Let’s jump into a quick review of the new LEGO Q1 January 2024 Build a Minifigures!

Check out previous build a Minifigure (BAM) releases below. I’m proud to say that this blog contains the most complete guide to all the LEGO Build a Minifigure releases as this is something I genuinely enjoy collecting and hunting for!

What are LEGO Build-a-Minifigure (BAM) exclusives?

In case you’re new to this, LEGO have been releasing new (and sometimes exclusives) into Build a Minifigure (BAM) stations that you’ll find at LEGO Stores. These are usually released on a quarterly basis, and are an intentional strategy to attract LEGO and Minifigure fans in-store.

You can customise your minifigures, and select a wig/hairpiece, head, torso, legs, and one accessory for these 3-pack blister packs which cost US$9.99 / AU$19.99. There have been some rumours swirling that there’s been a price increase for Build-a-Minifigures in 2024, so keep an eye out for that.

Some stores also send these new characters pre-packed, but that depends on your local store policy.

Q1 January 2024 Build-a-Minifigure (BAM) characters

Here’s a look at the 7 new official characters that make up the Q1 2024 Build-a-Minifigure selection.

Army-builders and LEGO Castle fans will be delighted to see the return of Lion Knights in Q1 2024, and we get the Yellow Shield and Queen Lionne’s torso in the mix.

It’s a shame that there’s only one accessory allowed, as it really feels quite empty without a sword or weapon, but it’s nice to see Lion Knights shields flood the Build-a-Minifigure stations again.

Of course, it’s cheaper to purchase the parts individually from Pick a Brick online if you want to seriously army-build, but this is a much quicker and more convenient alternative if you want to flesh out your Lion Knights faction.

The nostalgic ode to classic LEGO themes continues with a Pirate Archer, who has a confident squinty smirk on her face.

Her torso with a large leather strap isn’t new (it first popped up in the Creator Pirate Ship), but the printed legs are brand new and extend the printing and design of the torso, which is a really nice touch.

It’s unfortunate that the yellow neck and chest area is a little faded (a consequence of LEGO printing yellow on a darker base), but this is otherwise a really cool swashbuckling outfit.

You don’t normally see Pirates with bows!

For the Lunar New Year, we’re treated to a female Lion Dancer with an exclusive new torso!

The new torso features frilly gold decorations, and an image of a Chinese lion head, which matches the red envelope, a lucky and auspicious gift filled with money handed out during Chinese New Year.

Pretty basic, but at least this minifigure’s torso is a new exclusive and that’s always a win, instead of seeing recycled torsos.

Speaking of repurposed minifigures, there’s a Boombox Guy who is entirely made out of recycled minifigure parts. The shirt and hoodie combo with the equaliser bars are pretty trendy and contemporary, but you can skip this one without losing out on much.

Next, we have a Mohawk Hairstylist, equipped with a pair of scissors. At least I hope he’s a hairstylist or barber and not some stabby guy.

The minifigure’s leather jacket and striped shirt is quite nice (notice how they use a female torso with the smaller waist?), but not particularly new, and the pair of scissors as an accessory is pretty poor value, so make sure you pick up a more interesting accessory!

What is new and exclusive (for now) is the face, which has a very funny sweaty look, with his tongue sticking out. It’s pretty much this emoji 🥵 in minifigure form which is great!

For fans of winter sports, we have an excellent Snowboarder with plenty of new minifigure parts! Her reflective puffer jacket and jeans with scribbles and decorations are all brand new, which makes this one of the standout minifigures of Q1 2024.

Here’s a look at her back printing. Shame she doesn’t have an alternate face! The face isn’t new, having appeared in 60366 Ski and Climbing Center, but this could otherwise slot nicely into the set, or your Winter Village.

And last but not least is the Face Painting fairy! Her torso and legs are quite plain (but vibrant and colourful), but she sports a brand new face with elaborate face paint!

It’s a really interesting minifigure face and just reminds you of kids birthday parties, so this one could be quite handy to have around because of how distinctive it looks.

I also believe that the Fairy Wings are also a new recolour, as I don’t believe that we’ve gotten them with speckles in them before, making this a key accessory to focus on if you’re swinging by the Build-a-Minifigure station!

And that’s it for the 7 new characters found in the Q1 January 2024 BAM selection. These should be out in the wild from 1 January onwards, so next time you’re in a LEGO Store to check out all the new January 2024 releases, keep an eye out for some of these interesting new minifigure parts and accessories in the Build-a-Minifigure station!

Happy hunting!

These should start appearing in LEGO Build a Minifigure statins worldwide from November onwards, so next time you’re near a LEGO Store, pop in to see if you can find any of these!
