LEGO City Advent Calendar 2023 Daily Countdown

Hello and welcome to the Jay’s Brick Blog daily countdown of the 2023 LEGO City Advent Calendar!

After years of doing Advent Calendar countdowns, I felt like it was time to revisit the LEGO City Advent Calendar, which I haven’t done in a while.

2023 has been a transformative year for LEGO City, as it undergoes a bit of a renaissance, so I’m lookking forward to seeing what’s in store this year!

Join in as we count down the days till Christmas with daily updates in this post!

This year, I’ll be counting down all 5 LEGO Advent Calendars – Star Wars, Harry Potter, Friends, City and Marvel.

You can check out each countdown here

How does the daily advent calendar countdown work?

If you’re new here, I post daily updates on each window of the 2023 City Advent Calendar. I usually post updates in the morning, but sometimes if things get too busy, updates will be posted in the evening. I’ll update this post each day, as I don’t really enjoy the practice of creating new posts for each day as it keeps it so much cleaner, so bookmark this post to come back every day!

Unlike other sites, I’m actually opening each window as I go, and I’ve been able to be relatively spoiler-free to be as surprised as I can get. All reviews, thoughts and reactions are live as we go along, there are no pre-planned photos or thoughts, unless I happen to be travelling or away from home.

Do note that I’m based in Melbourne, Australia (GMT +11) so we’re ahead of most of the world (except New Zealand) so to avoid spoilers, try to come back to this post after you’ve opened your window and built the daily model especially if you’re located in other time zones.

PS: If you’re planning to buy any LEGO for Christmas and would like to support the work I do blog, please use these affiliate links if you’re shopping on AmazonAmazon Australia or LEGO.com!

I receive a small commission if you purchase something, which helps support the work I do on the blog!

To make it easier for you to check out each day’s section, as this post is going to grow longer with every new window, all you have to do is click on the Day you want, and you will instantly jump to the corresponding section.

While you’re here, please also subscribe to the blog if you’d like to find out about other posts which cover LEGO news, reviews and random musings!

To follow along, it’s best to bookmark this post to check back each day. You can also find a link to this post from the home page via a link in the top navigation bar. If you’re on mobile, you have to expand the burger menu (the button with the 3 lines) to find it.

Like all advent calendars, the flap of the calendars fold out, to form a little playmat of sorts where the little daily mini builds and characters can be displayed.

I really like the illustration of a City square, and there are some nice nods to City heritage like a Pizza Restaurant, the Fresh supermarket and also a huge tree and carousel.

You count upwards from 1 to 24, so don’t make the mistake of going backwards!

As always, the instructions are found on the inside of each window flap, so be gentle when opening them as you’ll need to sometimes refer to them for slightly more complicated builds!

Without wasting any time, let’s get started with the 2023 City Advent Calendar countdown!

Day 1

On Day One, we begin with a build instead of a minifigure with a Snowman on Skis! This was quite a fun little build, and I love that they incorporated the red scarf into the build.

At first, I thought that this could also double as a Police Snowman because of the dark blue motocross helmet, but this Snowman could just be an adrenaline junkie.

Not too bad for Day 1, and I also like the use of the 3-prong sticks for arms, which look much better than the traditional two-prong twigs!

Check in tomorrow to see what we get in Day 2!

Day 2

No minifigures yet, but Day 2 of the LEGO City Advent Calendar gives us a lovely Santa Sign Post! We have a printed Nexo Shield which has a graphic of Santa’s Sleigh pulled by a reindeer.

It’s a really nice print, and something that you can easily add to your LEGO Winter Village!

And that’s Day 2 so far! Some really simple yet tastefully simple builds that I’m enjoying so far, but I think it’s time for a minifigure for some playability! Check in to see what we get on Day 3!

Day 3

Day 3 of the 2023 LEGO City Advent Calendar has us building this adorable Reindeer! The design is great, with good use of the pearl gold antlers, and I like the different layers of colours used as well.

Honestly, I’m so impressed that there still isn’t a minifigure yet, three days in. I haven’t done a City Advent Calendar in years, but this seems quite unusual, but I’m liking the direction so far.

Will we finally get a minifigure in Day 4? Check back tomorrow to see if we do!

Day 4

Finally, a LEGO minifigure! In Day 4 of the 2023 LEGO City Advent Calendar, we get an Ice Hockey Player from today’s window! He has a really happy face, comes with an ice hockey stick, and even has Ninjago-esque shoulder pads and ice skates.

Took us this long, but younger fans will absolutely enjoy the playability that the inclusion of a LEGO Minifigure will bring. I wonder if we’ll get a goal for him tomorrow?

Check back tomorrow to see what we get in Day 5!

Day 5

As predicted, to go with yesterday’s Ice Hockey Player, Day 5 gives us an Ice Hockey Goal and a Trophy! The build itself is fairly basic, so the Trophy is a nice bonus, and at least the colours are somewhat Christmas-y as they look like Candy Canes.

Not sure who the Ice Hockey Player is playing against, although he could just be practicing his shots. Check in tomorrow to see what we get on Day 6!

Day 6

Wow, on Day 6 we get a delightful surprise in the form of a Bird Ice Sculpture! I really like the use of trans-blue teeth elements and crystals to bring this simple bird to life.

I really love the look of it, and how striking it is, and something I didn’t expect to pop out of an Advent Calendar!

I’m really glad that I decided to do the City Advent Calendar this year as it’s been refreshing seeing each day’s surprise. This might just be my favourite build so far. Check back tomorrow to see what Day 7 brings!

Day 7

Following on from yesterday’s excellent Bird Ice Sculpture, on Day 7 we get the artist of that wonderful build – an Ice Sculptor minifigure. She’s attired in appropriate winter-wear and comes with a chainsaw, a pickaxe and protective goggles.

No alternate face, but we do get some back printing.

We get our second minifigure in the 2023 City Advent Calendar and it’s a very fitting one to go with Day 6’s Ice Sculpture. Check in tomorrow to see what Day 8 brings!

Day 8

On Day 8 of the City Advent Calendar, we get a simple lamp post build. While it looks relatively simple, I do appreciate the technique and how it looks, especially the use of black “tap” pieces.

While it’s a pretty simple build, it does add to the ambience of the overall scene. Check back tomorrow to see what Day 9’s window will bring!

Day 9

On Day 9 we get another excellent minifigure, with a Carol Singer! She’s holding up a candle and has a great expression, with her eyes closed singing carols into the night.

Here’s a look at the back print and alternate face.

I wasn’t expecting another minifigure so soon, but the Carol Singer is another nice addition, and very Christmas-y. I did wish that the skirt had printing, but it still mostly works for me.

Check back tomorrow to see what we get on Day 10!

Day 10

On Day 10 we get another City Advent Calendar staple, a fireplace! This one is pretty simple, although I have to note that I incorrectly positioned the masonry brick atop the fireplace (the masonry brick pattern should be facing forward), so please disregard it!

While it’s not the most exciting build, it’s still a very fitting build, and it’s also our first “internal” build, so here’s hoping we get more cosy builds like this!

Come back tomorrow to see what we get on Day 11!

Day 11

The 2023 LEGO City Advent Calendar started off slowly in the minifigure department, but we sure seem to be picking up pace! On Day 11, we get yet another minifigure a teenage gamer! He has a fun torso with an equaliser pattern on it, some teal headphones (plus a spare) and a video game controller.

Here’s a look at the back print. The Gamer’s wig is also pretty trendy with the Gen Z Broccoli cut hairstyle.

That’s it for Day 11 so far! The Gamer should be quite a popular character, as most kids will invariably have something gaming-related for their Christmas wishlist!

Come back tomorrow to see what we get for Day 12!

Day 12

On Day 12, following yesterday’s Gamer, we have a Gaming PC! It’s a relatively simple build, but there are some nice touches such as the purple mousepad, and black CPU that also doubles as one of the legs for the desk.

Gamer is really happy that it’s not even Christmas and he’s gotten a brand new PC. Maybe he’s playing the new LEGO Fortnite?

Come back tomorrow to see what we get on Day 13! Can’t believe we’ve crossed the halfway mark of the 2023 City Advent Calendar!

Day 13

The gaming builds continue for a third day in a row as Day 13 of the 2023 LEGO City Advent Calendar gives us a lime green gaming chair! Gaming Chairs are popular accessories for gamers as they can spend hours on end playing on their computers, so it’s really important to get good back support.

This one has a modern design to it, and I do like the inclusion of the lever at the base to adjust the height of the chair.

And that’s it for Day 13 so far! The Gamer can finally kick back, recline and enjoy his many hours of gaming on his new PC.

Come back tomorrow to see what we get on Day 14!

Day 14

The minifigures keep on coming! On Day 14, we get a young girl in a dark red beanie. She comes with a printed smartphone tile and some dog treats, as well as a blue jumper and a black skirt.

Here’s a look at her back printing. She doesn’t have an alternate face, but the beanie with her hair in plaits is a nice accessory to get.

It’s quite incredible that we already have 5 minifigures and 10 days left in the calendar. With so many minifigures already included, there’s plenty of play opportunity here, and interestingly, there are now more females than there are male characters!

Check back tomorrow to see what we get on Day 15!

Day 15

On Day 15 we get a really cute build, a Christmas Cat Tree plus a white kitten! The cat tree even has a mini Christmas Tree on it, which I guess doubles as a scratching pole too, and the white kitten is a really adorable addition.

This is Day 15 of the City Advent Calendar so far and it’s great to get more cute animals in it! Also love that the build is Christmas-y.

Check back tomorrow to see what we get on Day 16!

Day 16

On Day 16 we get another excellent piece of furniture with a Grandfather Clock! The design is really cool, and I love the use of the pearl gold lollipop-shaped element for the pendulum.

The clock face is also printed which is another nice and useful element to have. This build can easily be incorporated to any LEGO house interior and I think one of the best-designed builds we’ve gotten this year.

That’s it for Day 16! Really happy with the Grandfather Clock and can’t wait to see what we get on Day 17!

Day 17

On Day 17 of the City Advent Calendar, we finally get a Christmas Tree! This one’s pretty chunky this year thanks to the larger green 2×2 wedges for the base of the tree.

It’s a great tree and the different silhouette is really appreciated, and I also like the red base.

And that’s it for Day 17 so far! Check back tomorrow to see what we get on Day 18! Only one week of Advent Calendar opening left to go!

Day 18

To accompany yesterday’s Christmas Tree, Day 18 gives us a bunch of presents! I really like the long one – it’s quite an unusual shape for a LEGO Advent Calendar present, and at least there’s something new here.

Now the Christmas Tree is all decorated and we have presents! Check back tomorrow to see what we get on Day 19!

Day 19

On Day 19 we get more Christmas Staples with a massive full-sized Turkey and a candelabra on a table.

The trend of the indoor Christmas furniture continues and it’s nice to get these Christmas staples and comforts as we hurtle towards Christmas!c

Thankfully, someone has a chainsaw to carve the turkey up!

Come back tomorrow to see what we get on Day 20!

Day 20

On Day 20 of the LEGO City Advent Calendar we have a bit of a double surprise with a table with some cookies and milk – the perfect bait to lure Santa Claus into your homes, but also an adorable LEGO Chihuahua and a feeding bowl!

It’s really nice to get 2 different builds in one, and this feels quite generous as you’d typically expect the contents to be stretched out across 2 days.

With only 4 more days left of the Advent Calendar, it definitely feels like Christmas approaching, and now that we have some Cookies and Milk, it’s only a matter of time before we attract an unassuming jolly old bearded man in red!

Come back tomorrow to see what we get on Day 21!

Day 21

The 2023 LEGO City Advent Calendar continues to delight with a Snowboarding Mrs Claus for Day 21! Mrs Claus pops up in extreme style on a dark green snowboard.

This Mrs Claus minifigure is exclusive to this Advent Calendar and features a brand new torso, with a fur-lined Santa outfit over a green sweater. The printing is sharp and the pop of green underneath all the red really adds to how good she looks.

Here’s a look at her back printing and dual-sided head, which has her smiling with her eyes closed, looking pleased – probably because she still has it and can do Ollies all over fresh snow without breaking a sweat.

A really superb minifigure for Day 21 and quite a surprise as I thought that Mrs Claus would be in the final window as she’s such a great new exclusive variant.

Come back tomorrow to see what we get on Day 22!

Day 22

As we hurtle towards Christmas, on Day 22 we get a Santa Snowmobile! I really like the design of this, with great use of colours, and the pearl gold Uruk Hai swords for the skis!

The pop of green for the seat is also eye-catching and overall, I’m loving this theme of the Claus family being avid fans of snowsports – which seems pretty obvious since they live in the North Pole.

And that’s it for Day 22 so far! Only 2 days left of the City Advent Calendar. Come back tomorrow to see what we get on the second last window!

Day 23

On Day 23 we get a complementary build to yesterday’s Snowmobile/Sled – a trailer! There’s a section that connects to the Snowmobile to allow Mrs Claus to tow stuff!

It’s Christmas Eve tomorrow and the final day of the 2023 LEGO City Advent Calendar, and I think we all know what’s in the final Day 24 window, but come back one last time to see what we get and for a final summary and reflection of this most excellent City Advent Calendar!

Day 24

Welcome to the final day of the 2023 LEGO City Advent Calendar, and as expected, we have Santa Claus popping out of the Day 24 window! This is your stock standard LEGO Santa Claus and he comes with a sack full of gifts – just in time for Christmas!

Here’s a look at his face and back printing.

And here’s Mr and Mrs Claus. I have to say, Mrs Claus outshines Santa Claus and is definitely the better half!

Final Thoughts

And that’s it for the 2023 LEGO City Advent Calendar. It’s been a few years since I’ve added the LEGO City Advent Calendar to my rotation, and I thoroughly enjoyed every day. The windows have been fun, with a nice variety of builds split between 3 main zones – outdoors, and also 2 homes with varying interests and styles which I appreciate.

The minifigures have been good as well, with the standout being Mrs Claus.

Very pleased that I decided to do this year’s City Advent Calendar, and I’m definitely convinced to do next year’s as well!

Thank you SO much for following this year’s City Advent Calendar countdown, and for joining in each day as we count down to Christmas.

Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a happy new year!
